Life on the River

It's been almost two years since I last updated our blog. Oops! Needless to say, I'm not very good at this blogging thing. But now that we live far from the city, where the craziness of live calms down in the country, perhaps I will have more time to write. Or at least make more of an effort to do so.

I changed the name of the blog from "life on diamond" to "life on the river" after our big move to the Thornapple River in May. Miles couldn't be happier living on 40 acres on a beautiful fish infested river. Either could I. I am sometimes overwhelmed with how blessed I am to have this position and to have this beautiful home as one of the many perks of the job.

Our Family Room. Although I LOVED the hardwood floors at our first house, I am loving having carpet again!

Our kitchen has counter space AND a dishwasher. Oh. My. Goodness!

The Fishing dock in our backyard. Miles happy place.
His first catch of the year!
Life on The River got a whole lot better when we impulsively decided to get a puppy after the first week of camp. We went to a shelter with intentions of getting a two year old stray, but after seeing an adorable puppy full of kisses, we couldn't resist. With the help of my staff, we named him Charlie, after Camp O'Malley's founder, Charles Winslow. He is such a good puppy, and is loving his role as Camp O'Malley's new mascot!

our first christmas tree!

Last Saturday, Miles and I went to the local market to get our first Christmas tree. The weather wasn't ideal (cold and rainy) but it was still memorable. :)

After recently discovering and becoming obsessed with pintrest, I found a cute DIY burlap tree skirt I wanted to make. See it here Ruffled Skirt. Well, after nearly an hour and a half of cutting and glueing, I had only made one row.

Yikes, the whole skirt would have taken the whole day. I settled with just one row of the pretty ruffled burlap. Maybe I will have more spare time next year and finish it.

Nothing is better than coming home seeing it all lit up and having the strong scent of pine in our home. :)

10.8.11

When we were looking at our wedding venue they had two dates available, 9-10-11 and 10-8-11. Miles was all for 9-10-11, since it would be a month sooner and the date was fun and unique but I had always dreamed of a fall wedding. I took the risk of colder weather in hopes that we would have beautiful fall colors. Little did I know that on October 8th we would have 80 degree weather and the fall leaves would be in their peak. The day was absolutely perfect ...we were so blessed. It's still setting in that I am a wife to such an incredible man and that my love for him continues to grow with each day. :) Here is a small glimpse of our day. Thanks to Jennifer Grace Photography for these breath taking pictures.

my first post!

Well, I finally decided to make a blog. Not sure how this will go but I thought I would give it a try!  We'll see :)
